Tanfield Mill is an ongoing development in sustainable renewable energy projects with an emphasis on Hydro-Electric applications.
Tanfield Mill has one 30Kw rated Francis Turbine and two smaller 3Kw rated turbines.
Water usage is 1.5 cubic meters per second for the large turbine and 0.15 cubic meters per second for the smaller units. Operating head is 2.47 meters.
The site has operated as a mill for four hundred years, in 1907 the site was upgraded from a wheel to the current Francis turbine. From 2002 till 2004 the Francis turbine was restored to its original condition with special improvements applied for more efficient running. |
